I think the old boring default theme isn't a great match for a site devoted to a leading edge portal. It looks kinda 1980's and IMO you'd be better of setting a different theme as the site default. If you like I'm happy to give you the file for a DzinerStudio theme I altered to support css drop menus.

I'm support staff over at Dziner Studio and Bikken and MaYday have no problem with me releasing mods of their free themes as long as their copyright stays intact, although they do prefer that the themes are not otherwise redistributed (standard SMF terms of use).
Using Internet Explorer 6 on the internet is like urinating in a public swimming pool.
It's rude, there's no excuse for it, and anyone who does it should be ashamed of themselves.

I have checking the DS-Natura theme today with the brand new PortaMx release  ;)
Looks fantatic ... but I have removed the wrapper width .. it's to small for me.
What not work (same as on most themes), I can't set my own logo in the settings.

Yes, Bikken often sets his wrapper width to suit a 1024 screen. I usually change it to about 90% for that style of theme. It looks much better like that IMO.

Doing logos by ftp doesn't bother me. I never use the admin setting for logos anyway. In fact since I run my multicolour themes I can't use a single logo anyway, because I'm not calling all the variations from one stylesheet.

DS-Natural is a nice theme. I was just playing around with it today. Can't help myself. ;)

I'll be adding custom drop menus to DS-Natural this week. I'm going to do all the Dziner Studio free themes. I think drop menus are going to be obligatory for all themes in the near future.

Bob, I noticed you're running the dark Overview theme on your test site. If you'd like to convert it for drop menus I've done a thread about it over at Dziner Studio. http://www.dzinerstudio.com/index.php?topic=2148.0

I looks today over the Fronpage structure and fond a good choice to use a fullsize frontpage with the actually theme setting.

But .. for this, the theme itself must follow a correct tructure.
What I mean;
Each part of template (html_above, body_above, ...below) must have a closed structure as follow:

html_above:
<html> <body>

body_above:
<div id="mainframe">
... your code follow here ...
   <div id="bodyarea">

body_below:
   </div>  // close the bodyarea div

   <div id="footerarea">
       ... the footer code
   </div>
</div> // close the mainframe div

html_below:
</body></html>

Do not add images like header etc. on the body tag !!

On OverViewLight I found that;
1. Background Image on body tag
I remove that and add a division for the background image on the body_above before the wrapper div:
   <div id="bodytop">

css: #bodytop {
   margin: 0px;
   padding: 0px;
   background: #ffffff url(images/bg.gif) repeat-x;
}

2. a divison close on html_below:
I remove this, and add the div close at the end of body_below.

So the Theme works in a fullsize frontpage.

I think. it's a good idea, to follow this tructure on all themes. That will help all Portal system they use the SMF layer system.

Thanks,

Fel

This is a example for a fullsize frontpage on OverViewLight with a dropdown menubar. See attached image.

The code is experimental ...  ;)

I like the idea of being able to use the theme's menu above a full size front page of people want to do that. That one you've shown is pretty close to the theme's menu and could easily be tweaked of course.

Hey I was just trying out the Amber theme for a change and you have a Display.template problem in Firefox. Haven't checked any other browsers yet.

Hi!
I have test this themes on my test site: http://darkwolf.altervista.org/smf2/index.php
all is perfect except this small error with IE7 (but i repeat all work fine) and is w3c valid.
PS: this problem is present only with overview and overview light themes and only for guests.

I use the DM version of both themes  here (thanks to antechinus for the great DM themes  ;) ) .. all works perfect in IE7 (no error)

Amber is borked in IE7 too, but different. Has lotsa missing buttons.

ETA: Actually it's fine on IE7. I couldn't see the buttons because I wasn't logged in. :D

@Dark Wolf: I can't see any error on guest view.

It is, but it's the 2 beta 4 version which I haven't updated yet. Also I've cleaned up the code since then. I'll knock up an updated RC1 version as soon as I get time.
