I have created a fantastic RSS reader block ..  8)

The reader supports RSS, RSS2, RDF and SMF style feeds, have a lot of features and (of course) a caching.
A preview you see in the attached image ... and on the frontpage  ;)

Now the reader supports RSS, RSS2, RDF, SMF and ATOM style feeds  :D
Also the reader uses the fsockopen() function, so it will give no problems with the url read.

After a little bit more testing, I develope a beta of the rss reader.
The block must installed manually (need changes on the LoadData.php).

More about that follow ...

Nice job.
Using Internet Explorer 6 on the internet is like urinating in a public swimming pool.
It's rude, there's no excuse for it, and anyone who does it should be ashamed of themselves.

Hi Feline,
by the way, how are updates of PortaMX handled ?

Does one just overinstall the new version or
do we have to uninstall the old version ?

As I still have the 0.952 version from late Nov.2008
will you also fix the new 2 bugs in the 0.953 version
or if I fix it now manually, will it make a conflict then ?

Danke.

Regards, Stefan.

P.S: What is the difference to this RSS Mod ?

Does your Block have more or less functionallity ?

The installer/upgrade package does everything for you, including uninstalling the earlier version.
The advantage of Fel's RSS block is that it is part of the portal so you don't have to install it separately.

It's rude, there's no excuse for it, and anyone who does it should be ashamed of themselves.

I dont know that mod .. but I see many things they I not need. I will see the news on the Feed and all the information they brings up .. (see the frontpage as example).
Features? Oooh yes .. I have many of them  ;) The best ist the caching of the feed content. That reduce the flow und the page load time extremly ...

The most RSS feeds use utf-8, so it's better ti swich you forum to urf-8.
We don't convert any was received from a feed .. that's to heave.
On a utf-8 forum the feed show correctly ... see image
