Stefan, we will not make a simple copy/bugfix of SSEF .. we make a new SEO addon that is "based on" SSEF.

1. All "normal" SMF urls wil be converted
2. existing "Simple urls" from SSEF will be converted (like /board_###, /topic_### and /user_###)

What do PortaMxSEO converted to:
/index.php?board=#.#  =>  /board-name.#
/index.php?topic=#.#  =>  /topic-subject.#
/index.php?action=name  =>  /name
/index.php?u=##  =>  /u.real-name
/index.php?key=value  =>  /key/value

All that can you see here now  ;)

For singe pages, categories and article we have current not the final format, we work on it..

For the next question I already know the answer I'm afraid: Is it possible to use the same SEF output  in PortaMxSEO as PrettyURLs does?

I don't know how prettyurls the link converted and I can't install this.
As I see is that pretty make many. many changes on SMF files and need a complexe htaccess.
Our SEO do nonthing change on SMF files and use a simple htaccess.

So can you tell me, how petty the urls converted? (samle links for topics, boards and so one)

Quote
Maybe you can help to create an converter or something in .htaccess to keep or rewirte the URLs with 301.

For that I'm not the correct person, my htaccess know how is very low  ;)

I see some changes...
Quotehttps://www.portamx.com/category/PortaMx-Product-Story/

Why did you add this ".c0.html/"?? It's not any more people friendly! Slash ("/") after topic extension is silly at all.
A situation with other type of pages is not better.

We have to make sure that the SEF url can fast converted, without any database access. To solve this, we need the additional marker .c#. to detect a root or child category. if we use a / between the parts, each convertion needs many additional checks. this can be solved with simple dots.

Nobody MUST use the PortaMx SEF, it's a free add one, that you can enable or not.
You can use SimplSEF or PrettyUrls, but both can't convert Portamx specific urls correctly.

Maybe you can add selection what kind of redirects use in admin menu: fast but not so desired or slow but having needed features?

There's a big risk when PrettyURL users switch to PMX that they will definitely lose the rankings on Google.... which makes it uninteresting for prettyurls users to switch to PMxSEF. When reversing you get the same problem (PMxSEF -> PrettyURLs).

PortaMxSEF is a additional module that can enabled or not, so nobody MUST use it.

Prettyurl ist not the best (imho) because this mod need many changes ans the SMF sources, a very complexe .htaccess and additional database tables & queries.
SimpleSEF is good and fast, but have a lot of bugs and the comma separated url's are not the best.
And .. both can't convert portamx specific urls to a SEO format...

So last night we have rewritten PortaMxSEF, so the created url's are near to Prettyurl, but without any /?action=xyz , we convert ALL token  ;)

QuoteThe best way for you (IMO!) is to have contact with the authors of SimpleSEF and PrettyURLs and make something which is interchangeable or at least compatible.

That is't possible, any of the mod's follow a other way .. there is no consense.
SimpleSEF is very slow supported, know bugs are not fixed, and Prettyrls make to many changes on SMF .. that is not our way.

QuoteCreating your own SEF will put you on an island which is definitely uninteresting for you and PMX.

As I say .. it's a additional module and can used or not. We use this .. of course  :)

QuoteBut you can also create your own system and let the users decide which one they use. Users need to must be informed that they can't switch to an other SEF mod when they used PMxSEF.

Not true .. as I say .. We do not modify any in SMF or modify the existing url permanently. The url converting is do on the fly .. runtime. Of course .. if you post a internal link in a topic, these do not work on a other mod.
We can convert links from SimpleSEF (simple format) to PortaMxSEF ...

Great, when will this be released about ?
More than 2 weeks still ?

And to the others: why do you want to use something else than PortaMXSEF,
when it is working optimized together ?

Google will recrawl your website and will rerank you again in a few days, if you convert from
another SEF mod...
So better use PortaMXSEF for this.

Regards, Stefan.

You mean besides the fact that they haven't actually gotten the chance to use it to see if they even like it  (your question makes no sense)

When its released those who want to use it will, those who don't just wont... simple as that

Currently I can't say that .. we have to check the result from our testing phase here.
In this time, we make the settings part in the PMX admin center.

QuoteAnd to the others: why do you want to use something else than PortaMXSEF, when it is working optimized together ?

It's the choice of any admin to use tools like this.

We have read all the Google documents about SEO/SEF and we have these suggestions implemented so far as possible.
The result of all this you can see here and on our short overview on the Front page.

I wouldn't bet on this. When I stopped using PrettyURLs almost a year ago my google page rank went from 4 to zero where it it is still at today and google still has the Pretty URLs indexed in their search results which results in 404 errors still.

Edit: I just rechecked and my page rank has gone back to 3 now but it has taken a year since using prettyurls to get back to that ranking.

*lol* .. no, no .. normaly you have nothing to change of all the settings, that is default.
After you have created a .htaccess, simple enable the SEF engine and good.

Hi Feline,
how is the PMXSEF going,
are you still seeing a few bugy or is it soon to be released ?

Vielen Dank schonmal.

Gruss, STefan.
